ELSAview Version 1.0
Copyright (C) 1992 by ELSA America, Inc.
Installation and Registration of ELSAview
Installing ELSAview:
ELSAview REQUIRES AutoCAD Release 12.
Check to see that you have the following files:
ELSAVIEW.REG
ELSAVIEW.EXP
ELSAVIEW.DOC
ELSAVIEW.DCL
ELSAVIEW.CFG
Copy all files from the disk to your ACAD subdirectory. You
may also use any other subdirectory on your ACAD path as defined by
the ACAD environment variable.
Running and Registering ELSAview
ELSAview is distributed as a convertible demo. Until
you register your copy of ELSAview by contactingl ELSA to
receive a password, it will run on your machine in demo mode, disabling
all functions except for the viewing of drawing files. Once you have
received your password, ELSAview automatically converts
to fully functional mode.
Every user MUST register each copy of ELSAview
before it will become fully functional. This is true whether you
have purchased it from an ELSA reseller, direct from ELSA or are attempting
to purchase it with a charge card or COD.
How to Register Your Copy of ELSAview
Run AutoCAD Release 12
Type this command: (xload "ELSAview")
Your text screen should display a message with instructions
and an ID code. You may want to write this code down. You must supply
this code to ELSA in order to receive the password which will unlock
your ELSAview.
You can register your copy of ELSAview by phone,
fax or mail.
By phone:
While the ID code is displayed on your AutoCAD text screen,
call ELSA's toll free registration line at 1-800-272-3572 (or 1-415-615-7799).
Be prepared to give the following information, along with
your ID code:
Name Company Address State City Zip Phone Fax
Reseller's name
ID code
Tell the ELSA registration operator that you want to register
your copy of ELSAview. The ELSA operator will take your
information and give you an authorization password, which you will
key in. This will unlock your ELSAview for use on your
computer. ELSAview is licensed for use on a single machine. Network
and multiple user licenses are also availble.
Fax and mail procedure
If it is inconvenient for you to call ELSA, you may register
by fax (1-415-588-0113) or mail. Follow the steps to xload
ELSAview and write down the ID code which is displayed. You
may exit the xload procedure by typing ^C. Fill out
the form information below in clear block letters, including the ID
code. Fax or mail the form to ELSA, making sure to include your fax
number if you would like the authorization code to be faxed back to
you. Once you receive the authorization password code, you can xload
ELSAview and enter the password.
Running ELSAview as a Demo
If you don't have the authorization password code, you
may respond to the xload request for the code by typing ^C. This
will load ELSAview as a demo, allowing you to use it to
view drawings and blocks, but disabling all other features. As with
any ADS program, ELSAview will remain loaded and active
even while you open new drawings. You may unload ELSAview
using the command (xunload "ELSAview"). If ELSAview
is loaded as a demo and you wish to enter a valid authorization code
which you receive from ELSA, you must first xunload and then
xload ELSAview again in order to get the registration
screen to come up.

Instructions for using ELSAview
Once your copy of ELSAview is registered on your
computer, it can be used any time you are running AutoCAD Release
12.
To load it type (xload "ELSAview").
It will stay loaded throughout your AutoCAD session, no
matter how many drawings you work on. When you end AutoCAD, it will
automatically unload. To unload ELSAview at any time you
can also type (xunload "ELSAview").
To pop the ELSAview drawing manager window, type
EV at the command line. EV can also be added to any AutoCAD
menu.
In the following instructions, the word "blocks" refers
to "external" blocks, sometimes called "wblocks". AutoCAD treats
these as independent .DWG files. This version of ELSAview
does NOT display "internal" block definitions.
Main ELSAview functions:
INSERT
This command inserts the displayed .DWG file into the currently loaded
AutoCAD drawing as a block.
OPEN
This command loads the displayed .DWG file as the next AutoCAD drawing to
be edited, prompting you to save or discard the current drawing if it has
been changed.
GRAPHICS DISPLAY AREA
This area displays .DWG files you wish to view. Picking
any two points in this area performs a zoom window operation on the
viewed drawing or block.
ZOOM EXTENTS
This command zooms the displayed drawing or block to its
full extents.
PRESS ANY KEY
While any display operation is going on you may press any
key to stop it. This will function during the initial display of
a selected block or drawing, or during a zoom operation. This quick
stop function is very useful when displaying large drawings. You
may rapidly move on the the next drawing or view as soon as you recognize
that the current one is not what you are looking for. There is no
need to wait for the display operation to finish. While ELSAview
is reading a .DWG file, as indicated on the status line, it cannot
be interrupted.
STATUS LINE
This line, located directly under the drawing display window,
indicates what operation ELSAview is performing, and shows
error messages or warnings. Typical messages include: "No Active
Drawing", "Reading Please Wait", "Active File...", "Unable to Read...".
FINDIT..
This command pops the FINDER dialog box for text string
searches.
SORT by..
This command pops the Sort dialog box, which controls the
order in which file names are displayed.
FILE:
This space displays the name of the .DWG file currently
displayed. You may type a filename here as an alternative to scrolling
and clicking the displayed filename.
DATE:
The date of the last edit of the displayed file is shown
here.
TIME:
The time of the last edit of the displayed file is shown
here.
SIZE:
The size of the displayed file is shown here.
DRAWINGS list box
This presents a scrollable list of all .DWG files in the
currently selected subdirectory. The order of display is controlled
by choices in the SORT dialog box, and the default is alphabetical. Scrolling
of file names is activated by "dragging" the "thumb" (small box) of
the scroll bar to the right of the file names. Alternatively, you
may click on the up or down arrow boxes at the top and bottom of the
scroll bar. Arrow keys are also active, as are page down and page
up keys.
Double click (two quick clicks of the mouse/puck pick button)
on any file name and ELSAview will read and display the
.DWG file. While the display operation is in progress, you may hit
any key to abort it.
DIRECTORY list box
A scrolling list of subdirectories is shown here. Double
click on any subdirectory name to make that subdirectory current. Double
click on the ".." line to move up one directory level.
DISK
This drop down box is used to select drives on a network
or local hard drives.
NOTES:
This is an edit/display box showing a 128 character note
related to the current .DWG file. This can be edited by placing the
text cursor at any location. Standard edit keys are active, and the
cursor keys can be used to scroll the note if it is longer than the
display can show. You may highlight text by dragging the cursor across
it.
In this version of ELSAview, notes are maintained
as separate text files with the same name and location as the .DWG
file. If you move a drawing file, be sure to move the note file as
well.
FINDER.. dialog box
ELSAview allows you to search for drawings and
blocks even if you don't remember their names or locations. Perhaps
you recall that there is a text item in a landscaping drawing which
said "remove bush from white house". ELSAview will find
the drawing by searching all drawings in your current subdirectory
or your entire hard drive for this text string.
Any unique text, attribute, layer name, etc. can be used
as a search string. Enter a text string into the FIND.. edit box
and click START. ELSAview will search and display the names
of all drawings which are found to contain the search string. You
may double click on any drawing name to view that file. The FIND
process can be halted at any time by pressing any key. All drawings
with matching text strings will be stored in the file display box. FIND
can be restricted to search only in the current subdirectory (for
extra speed) or across all subdirectories.
SORT dialog box
Files can be displayed in alphabetical order, by date or
size. The checkboxes in the SORT dialog box are used to control the
order of display of filenames.
